What happened to the Sony DSC-W380?

Hi,I did the following:

What happened to the Sony DSC-W380?I was reading Consumer Reports and their CR Best Buy digital camera was the Sony DSC-W380. Eager to research it, I went to Sony's website and it wasn't on there. I tried searching it on google, and I haven't been able to find it on any American websites. Is it discontinued or not released yet? Why would Consumer Reports review it if it's not available?

The DSC-W380 is one of about eight new models that share the same basic "chassis" with variations in features and prices. They were all introduced by Sony around the beginning of 2010 but buyers for various stores select the models they will carry based on their own marketing objectives. It appears that few buyers for the North American markets felt that the W380 model fit their marketing strategy.

It may simply be that the next higher or lower models have more attractive price points, selling features or profit margins. Or Sony may have found that other models were being ordered in large quantities and decided to delay production of that model to meet the demand. I found two sites that are offering the DSC-W380 for sale in the U.S. but, of course, there is no guarantee they have the camera in stock.

Finally, to add to the confusion many camera manufacturers make "regional" models that have different model names or cosmetic differences for sale in specific countries or even in specific business groups.

If you really want one of these models I would check big chains such as Dell Computers.

HTH. Good Luck!
