Is there any way to add a filter to a point and shoot digital camera?I'm most interested in a filter that will increase contrast in landscape pictures, probably a UV, but there may be others.

UV filters only cut a little haze in landscapes and most importantly protects the front elements of lenses found on 35mm, DSLR, medium format and view camera lenses.

To increase the contrast in landscapes, you would need a polarizing filter (it rotates to accommodate the cameras position (horizontal or vertical) ... I don't know of any point and shoot cameras that allow for adding filters.

They are not designed to accept filters, but you can hold one in front of the lense, just don't block the infrared. It's a pain, but it will work. A polorizing filter will work best for contrast. You'll just have to keep turning it until you reach the desired effect.

Actually, your sensor already has a UV filter on it. Adding another UV filter will actually reduce contrast.

Anyway to add filters, check your camera instruction manual and see if filters are available as accessories.

For example, my Canon A570 IS has a removeable ring which can allow an accessory to be added, like accessory lenses or filters.

One place to check is here:

See if there's a lens/filter adapter for your camera model.
