Affordable Digital SLR camera for beginner?

Affordable Digital SLR camera for beginner?I'll be taking some photography courses and I was wondering what would be a good starter SLR camera for beginning photography. Most of the pictures I would take would be outside if that makes a difference. I would like a live view, but its not mandatory. I have also heard that 8mp is pretty good in this case, is that true?

Also, since most of these cameras are sold as the body only, are there any tips for picking out lenses? (like what type may be more versatile)

I know that these cameras can get pricey, but im looking at a smaller budget of between $ 200 - $ 300 (including lens)

Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated as I am just starting out and open to any advice. Thanks a lot!

I don't think you can buy any new DSLR in this budget, however, look for a used one on ebay. And definitely you can't get the current models with live view even if they are used in this price, try some previous models such as Nikon D40 or Canon 350D. If you are lucky you might grab one in this price.
And even though they are slightly old models and used of course, do not under estimate them, they are both great cameras.
The kit lens that usually comes with these is I guess 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 lens, and is good enough to start with.
And hey, there are some cheap DSLRs as well, such as Pentax, they are also ok to start with, but I would prefer a used Nikon/Canon over a new Pentax.

No you'll not get near a dslr camera for that money. You'll need to double your budget.

I don't recommend even considering used because you don't know where it's been.

Digital SLRs cost more than $ 300. The very cheapest DSLR camera is the Sony A230, but it's nowhere as good as the entry-level cameras made by Canon or Nikon, which will cost at least $ 500. The A230 is nonetheless available here for a little over $ 300: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/622214-REG/Sony_DSLRA230L_Alpha_A230_Digital_SLR.html

Alternatively, you can also buy used, but of course you're always taking a risk whenever you buy used.

Good luck.
