who are some established fine art photographers who use digital?I know that Catherine Opie shot her figure and landscape series mainly on a medium format digital camera. Are there any others? I know most shoot on 4x5 and scan digitally since the color darkroom is being phased out virtually everywhere, but i want photographers who use digital cameras as their main go-to cameras.
I ask because i'm finding it hard to give up film for digital...in my mind grain just cannot compare to pixels. most of the work i've looked up that is digital is not refined and in fact most digital sort of has this weird look about it...it's just not growing on me. I need it to though because film is getting harder and harder to work with...

I know this isn't a direct answer to your specific question but what I think you are getting at is can digital be just as artistic as film, and the unequivocal answer is yes. The basics are still the same, but there is certainly a difference in output, though with editing programs and today's technology, with the right camera and right iso settings, I believe the look of film and digital are getting closer to each other. I personally, as a photographer, filmmaker, and artist, am willing to work in both film and digital formats, and I see no problem with using both equally, depending on what the project calls for.

- fine art is not "looked up" it is looked at, at a gallery or on a wall in print - not on a computer screen.........
