On a digital camera, what's the length of time in between taking pics called? What cameras have shortest time?

Hi,I did the following:

On a digital camera, what's the length of time in between taking pics called? What cameras have shortest time?We have a canon powershot that takes forever in between taking pictures. We wanted to look online to see which cameras would have a shorter time and tried to go by "refresh rate", but the definition of refresh rate had nothing to do with what we wanted. Does anybody know what it is called? Does anybody know of good digital camera that has a short wait time in between taking pictures (or a site that compares them)?

think the term you are looking for is shutter speed....

sorry i can not help any further...

The time between pressing the button half way and the shot is "lag time". All cameras have that.

What you need to speed up between shots is a faster card. If you're using the card that came with the camera it's probably pretty much standard speed. If you buy a faster card you'll find that time diminished.

It's called shutter lag (the time it takes for the camera to take the picture after you press the shutter button). Shutter lag is dependent on the actual camera you have and how quick and effective it's AF (Auto-focus) system is.

To lessen shutter lag...first half-press the shutter button down to allow the camera to lock in the focus, then hold it there and wait for the right moment, then press the button all the way down.

Many compact cameras these days have minimal shutter lag, though there are still a few models that are real slow. Shooting in lower light can easily increase shutter lag because the camera may have difficulty locking in the focus. Shooting with flash also slows things down.

I have found that many Canon models are very speedy, except for their entry-level budget models, so, I'm assuming you might have one of those.

The link below has a list of cameras tested for their shutter lag. The models at the top have the least lag and the models at the bottom have the most. However, just because a camera has the least amount of lag between shots, doesn't necessarily mean it takes great quality images, so you should also research each particular model on the image quality it produces.
