Any tips on buying a digital camera? We are not profesional photographers, we just want a decent digital camera that takes good pictures without a lot of fuss. Also, do you suggest we print our own prints or take them to a photo department to have them processed?

Pay attention to megapixels, that is how good the resolution will be. 9 -12 MP is good for a general, picture taking camera.
Get a camera with a memory card and then you can either print them your self of take them somewhere to get them processed.

Camera with the highest megapixels (10 to 12), prefer xD memory cards over SD but SD is good, too. And this is a personal preference but I don't like touch cameras. Also, the camera should have rechargeable batteries.
Printing your own photos is convenient but if you print the photos wrong you end up cutting them to size.

There are a lot of good digital cameras out there, and I'm not really qualified to give you an answer on that. One thing to look for, the higher the megapixel, the better the quality of picture.
On printing the pictures, I have found the cheapest and highest quality pictures come from the online sites such as Snapfish or Clark. You can upload your pictures to one of their sites, choose what sizes and finish you want, and they will print them out and mail them to you at pennies per picture. You can even add borders to the pictures, create picture books, posters, gifts, etc.
