What digital SLR camera would you suggest?I currently have a Sony Cybershot (older model). It was my FIRST digital camera ever, and now that I am more intuned with photography I want to pursue it more seriously.
I'm looking for an SLR camera with a wide range of abilities, different lense options and filters. Video capability isnt necessary, but I want to have the ability to take high quality photos, with different shutter speeds etc, etc.
All of this for a reasonable price...as it won't be the only camera I'm looking into purchasing.

Sony A850 would be a good step up.
I don't think any of the Sony dSLR cameras offer a video mode.

I think you should go to a store that sells cameras and have them on display. This way you can hold them and play around with them and find one that is fit for you. This is something you should pick on your own. You can go with the more popular camera like Nikon or Canon. Canon and Nikon have more options for lenses. All of the digital SLR's have plenty of shutter speed options. You don't have to buy the brand of filter to match your camera any brand will work. The one filter I suggest is a UV filter to help keep your lens (which is more expensive) from getting scratched or cracked.
If you are good at taking pictures the type of camera you buy wont matter.
Any of the beginning amateur cameras are going to do the just about the same thing. Having someone tell you what camera you should buy isn't going to make you a better photographer. This is a big step in your career then you need to do the research yourself. You learn more when you do it yourself then having someone say buy this camera.

My newest baby is the Olympus E-420. Olympus may not be a Canon or a Nikon or a Sony, but it's a great camera for a reasonable price. I got the body, a 14-42mm lens, and a macro lens, all for under $ 600. I'm toying with the idea of getting a telephoto lens soon. Right now is a pretty sweet time to buy DSLRs because of the price war going on between Walmart and Amazon. Hunt around for deals, and I'm sure you'll find some.
