Digital Camera Malfunction - white screen in shooting mode?Hey everyone. i recently purchased a Fuji FinePix F30 Digital Camera about 3 months ago. It works great and I have only found positive reviews of it so far on the internet. (I purchased it through HSN by the way)
Well when I went to turn it on yesterday (I haven't tried using it since around Christmas) I was impressed that it still had a charge and I was looking through all of the photos I had on there. All of the images were clear - the movies even played back just fine with sound and everything. Then I go into shooting mode so I can take some more photos of my daughter and I get a completely white screen. There is no lens cap - the brightness of the white does not matter if I expose the lens to bright light or cover it with my hand it is just white. If I take a photo it is a white photo of nothing. If I take a movie, I get sound on playback but just a white screen.
This camera has never been dropped or exposed to extreme temperatures. (continued...)
I read something about a CCD recall in canon, sony and fuji cameras but the serials and models of this recall do not match my serial number. And since the playback works just fine and I can view those photos I have no idea. It is only a complete white screen in shooting mode. I send an email to Fuji and am waiting for response from them. I really don't want to have to pay to get this fixed but it's been past 30 days so I can't return to HSN. Makes me sad. It was an expensive camera.

It doesn't sound like a CCD defect (although a few failing CCD's did do this). I would guess there is an electronic short in the processing circuit.
I would either send it to Fuji for them to repair or to take it to a repair shop. If it hasn't been impacted it will be repaired under warranty. Make a copy of your proof of purchase (POP) and your warranty card and send the copies with the camera. They aren't really neccessary because the camera's manufactured date is less than a year, but Fuji won't reimburse repair shops unless they have this information.
Repair times should be about 3-4 weeks depending on parts availability. If the shop (or Fuji) can't get parts in 4 weeks ask for a replacement. Repair shops often can't authorize a replacement, but Fuji can.
