My sister is a pretty good photographer and she suggested I get a Canon Rebel. I did and I love it. Still don't know what I am doing but the picutres still look better than on a point and shoot.

Without hesitation the Nikon D40 suits best your needs !

As suggested above, I would not recommend the Canon Digital Rebel, Digital Rebel XT, and would barely recommend the Digital Rebel XTi. All three cameras feel very cheap, with the Rebel XTi pulling ahead only slightly. I would recommend the 40d, 5D, or something from the Mark series. Any one of these cameras costs anywhere from $ 1,500-$ 8,000. Also, the Canon lenses are not so good, especially the kit lenses or cheaper lenses, under $ 500. The more expensive L series is great, though.

For all that you posted, I immediately thought of the Nikon D40. It is strong, sturdy, well built, has a great LCD, and great images. And, it goes for $ 550, with a lens. For a beginner, this is really all you need. This camera was completely designed for people just starting out.

Hope this helped.
