Plug it into your computer and either XP or Vista will recognize it and take it from there

You should still be able to download the pictures, the software just allows you to do tricks with it. Any computer nowadays will recognize the camera as a card reader or storage device. When you connect the camera to the computer, the computer should recognize the device and give you some options where to download the pictures to.
I have a Mac and about three different cameras and have had no trouble downloading pictures and video.
