Hey! So I want to get a digital camera but I can't decide what kind I want. Help me out?

Hi,I did the following:

Hey! So I want to get a digital camera but I can't decide what kind I want. Help me out?I don't have a budget but I really don't want to get an insanely expensive one. I want to be able to take pictures that are motion shots and I want to be able to get a good zoom. Oh and I want it to be a big camera. I want different filters as well. Is that too much to ask? Sorry.

You can start here ... once you have read enough to form a specific question, write back ... most of us check in from time to time and someone will be able to answer your question.

You will also learn the specific jargon used by photographers so we can understand better what you want. For instance, "take pictures that are motion shots". This could mean you want to take action shots and catch the person without any blurring of their extremities. Or you could mean that you want to shoot videos of things that move. Or you could want to add movement to things that are normally considered static.

You need to tell us what subjects you will be shooting, how well you know how to use a computer and what if any experience you have and if you have any friends who can help you if you need help.

the 1st answer is very good,

I might add......

You have to decide if you want a DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex)
A little larger, more expensive, but you can exchange lens, and they have almost no shutter lag, which means the camera shoots as quick as you hit the shutter, you don't have to have wait as long for the camera to decide on shutter speed, ISO, aperture, focus, etc.

Most have many "Auto Settings" so they are almost as simple to use as the Point n shooters, and then you can grow into the manual stuff, if ya want.

Or, Point n shooters
Smaller, lighter,
ALL have more shutter lag, but they are less expensive.
Most have movie modes . (not available in any DSLR that I know of)

I like the Nikons for DSLRs,
Canon for the Point n shoot

With either camera, I strongly recommend getting the IS/VR
Image Stabilization / Vibration Reduction.
This will help you get those tough shots in low lighting conditions, without a lot of camera shake.
Look for optical zoom,
ignore digital zoom (do that in your computer, where you can "undo it".)
