Suitable Digital Camera For Animal Photography?

Suitable Digital Camera For Animal Photography?Alright... I like taking photos of animals, especially birds, and would like to spend a bit of money on a good camera and the appropriate lenses (and settings...). I am particularly interested in the Nikon brand but will be open to anything equally as good.

I need to be able to have a lot of detail in the photos, terrific optical zoom (to capture the birds far away), be able to hit the shutter release and take the photos FAST (animals don't pose), something suitable for capturing movement, and anything else reccomended for taking animal shots.

I am new to good cameras and camera settings and lens, I've been using a crappy little Olympus all this time that I couldn't really change any settings on. .__. I have a lot to learn still so sorry if I sound a little ignorant.

Thanks very much for your help! :D

I don't have a set budget yet, it is something I will need to save up for. I'm not sure how much these things cost. But I expect the camera itself to probably be at least $ 2000-$ 3000 AUD.
