Help me in choosing Digital Camera?Hi everyone,
i have been looking for a digi cam with nice specs.I ended up with two and these are
1-Sony Cybershot DSC-W550 ( 14 Mega pixel , 4x Optical zoom, Battery Life= 250 Images ,Built-in Memory=NONE)

2-Nikon Coolpix S570 (( 12 Mega pixel , 5x Optical zoom, Battery Life= 200 Images ,Built-in Memory=41 MB)

now , i have to chose one and they have almost same price.
My friend told me that nikon has best lenses , i also like the 5x optical zoom , but battery life seems short.
and sony cybershot attracts me with its 14 Mega Pixell,250 MB battery life ,
SO please help me on it , is 14 MP is good (in sony ) or 5x Optical zoom(in Nikon) , also i have no idea about ISO and lense size blah blah.
please tell me about mega pixels and optical related thing , video clip are an other feature , i see at sony cybershot website , they say that w550 makes 640x480 at 30fps 8.8Mbpps, i find no related info about nikon , i am feeling for cybershot , but i need technical opinions please

i have a Panasonic Lumix TS2. Waterproof, shockproof, freeze proof and dust proof. its 14 mp and takes at least 350 pictures on a charge., paid $ 299. worth every cent.

it all depends on what are you going to use it for.

higher resolution (more megapixel) means more detail in the picture but at the cost of less light sensitivity. I have three camera's and most of the time i use the 5Mp one, simply because I can get good picture anywhere any time and even high res. images eventually get cropped down and resized. If you only plan on getting pictures in good lighting, higher resolution is preferred.
my Sony does not have removable battery and once the battery is dead, it's game over. My other cameras allow me to drop in any 1.5V batteries and I can keep on snapping pictures. Internal memory is not important because cards are specious and cheap. My sony uses proprietary memory stick while I would rather have standard SD card like all other cameras.
movie in 640x480, with 30fps is very nice but some camera's don't allow zoom while recording movie (or they mute sound). One annoying thing about movies is that many cameras don't mention movie file format. Many use *.MOV which I used to convert (loosing quality) but I found out that just renaming them into MPG works too (at least for files made by my cameras).
Optical zoom is the only one that counts, digital zoom is gimmick.
I strongly suggest taking few pictures and checking them out before you purchase, pay attention to details like noise, moire etc in the picture.

Good luck
